Design and selection of blades for the tire crushing process and manufacturing cost analysis

For the reuse of vehicle tires, a process called crushing is presented, which allows recycling and use of different materials for use in various industrial applications. The basic design of the tire crushing system using efficient blades was considered as an alternative solution to the problem of several business sectors, which have not yet reused the material. The objective of the research pursues the design and selection of blades for the tire crushing process and manufacturing cost analysis. Therefore, typical mechanical properties of rubber in the cutting process were analyzed, and economic knife alternatives were compared for the establishment of an appropriate tire crushing process. Each of the alternatives compared differs in mechanical characteristics and nature of the material widely spread in the local environment such as ASTM-A36, SAE -1045, and SAE-S1, the first material being the most economical and recommended, as long as the design alternative is used according to the curved flank model, with maximum deformation on average of 0.0202mm. It concludes with a low manufacturing cost regardless of the design of the blade varies, in any case heat treatment must be performed. The crushing system was sized in such a way that untreated tires are treated, typical in small vehicles, because they are very numerous since there are fewer cases of retreading. The research becomes a sustainable and feasible alternative for the medium and small industry that is good at offering products based on recycled material such as rubber.

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia Crassipes (Mart.) Solms) and water duckweed. (Lemna Spp.) to reduce the hardness of irrigation water

Contaminated irrigation water has been one of the most influential problems in agricultural production as it is positively correlated to the loss of crops, thereby significantly affecting the economy. It is therefore very essential for the scientific research to devise remediation methods to minimize or eliminate pollutants from the irrigation water.
The utilization of aquatic plants can serve an alternative technique for Phytoremediation in contrast to the frequently used physical methods. The present study shows the reduction in the hardness of the irrigation water of the Flores del Cotopaxi S.A. company, for which aquatic plants such as lechuguín and duckweed were used. To sample the Río Blanco basin irrigation water sample characteristics, the parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, total hardness, nitrates and sulfates were analyzed before and after the treatment. Additionally, the count of cfu / gram roots of each aquatic plants was conducted. This investigation had allowed us to conclude that lechuguín is the most suitable aquatic plant in mineral absorption, achieving a reduction of 218 to 154 mg of CaCO3 / l as a hardness parameter, pH control in neutral conditions in a range of 7.27-6.57 and decrease in conductivity, nitrites and sulfates given their stronger roots, and greater content of microorganisms according to the microbiological tests that were carried out.

Nutritional status and weight gain in pregnant women attended at the Loja Health Center No. 3

The initial nutritional status (INS) and the control of weight gain (WG) during the pregnancy are of vital importance, since its alteration constitutes a risk factor for the development of maternal and fetal complications in the short, medium and long term. The objectives were to assess the pre-pregnancy and gestational nutritional status up to the twelfth week of the women assisted at the Health Center No.3 of Loja, and estimate their WG per quarter and establish the relationship of nutritional status and their WG. The study is descriptive. The sample was of 92 pregnant women who met the inclusion criteria. Data was collected from WG curves and Body Mass Index (BMI) of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP), contained in the medical records of pregnant women. After analyzing the information, it was obtained, an initial average BMI(x ̃) of 25,28Kg/m2 (± 4.25DE), the population was divided into, 56.5% with normal INS, 28,3% overweight, 14,1% obesity and 1,1% underweight, the WG at the end of the third quarter was normal at 44,6%, less than what was recommended at 30,4% and excessive at 27,2%. It was found that there is no significant difference (p>0.05) for the relationship between INS and WG at the end of gestation. In conclusion, the initial BMI is not a predictor of the final WG that the pregnant woman will achieve at the end of this process and the alteration of this variable could be determined by other factors.

Bloom´s taxonomy usage on learners´ listening skills enhancement

The purpose of this paper was to present the results obtained during a study conducted at the Technical University of Ambato, in which some data gathered was the base to analyze students’ listening skills improvement at A1 level using different activities founded on Bloom's Taxonomy. In order to establish the relationship between the variables a survey was applied to 153 students of A1 level at the language Center. The survey results were considered to apply different activities in an experimental group which was chosen randomly. These activities were focused on several listening tasks based on the learning level of Blooms’ taxonomy. Furthermore, every activity developed in the classroom was conducted from the most uncomplicated to the most complex activity so that students could improve their listening comprehension. Once the data was interpreted and tabulated, the established hypothesis was corroborated through the application of the Chi-square formula, which demonstrated the improvement in the listening comprehension using Bloom’s taxonomy.  Finally, several conclusions were formulated considering the most important students’ opinions. This fact showed the students’ awareness in their listening skill improvement. Moreover, the development of the activities allowed them to be able to see the benefits in the process of learning and communication in English. Therefore, they were conscious about the difficulty in the comprehension of different aspects such as: distinguish   the main idea, details, summarize information or give their opinion about the topic listened.

Language games to enhance the speaking skill on beginner English language learners at University

This research aimed to discover if language games used as a teaching strategy improve the ability to speak English. The target population was fifty-two first level students at a university in Ecuador. Twenty-six students were part of the experimental group and the remaining twenty-six students were part of the control group. A previous test was applied for both groups to know their level of conversation. The results showed that both groups had a very basic level of speech. Consequently, language games were applied to students in the experimental group as a strategy to improve their ability to speak English. After this process, the students of both groups took a subsequent test to see if the games used during the classes made any difference with respect to the ability to speak. The findings indicated that students belonging to the experimental group obtained a higher average in the subsequent test compared to the average obtained by the control group. Therefore, it is important to consider that the averages of the experimental group exceeded the averages of the control group. Based on these findings, games as a teaching strategy improved the ability to speak English in the first level students of the university.
