In the age of knowledge, the productive forces of science and technology are evident, as well as the generation of transformations in human relationships. The purpose of this research is to present a vision on the approach of science, technology and society and its importance in tourism studies, as well as the benefits derived from taking on challenges to promote a destination with the use of information technologies and communication. From this approach, the authors expose the fundamental role of society as a dynamic system, which can establish objectives and contents of science and technology, according to the values that it wishes to satisfy.
Obtaining results leads to important conclusions, established on a theoretical basis, in the sense that it is not only about applying information and communication technologies, but also about reflecting on how they could contribute to tourism studies, to adequately address the needs of tourists and manage resources properly, as the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) mentions.
