Artificial Intelligence Usage Policy
Due to the increasing use of artificial intelligence in academic works, the editorial body establishes the following policy:
Authorship of works with the help of artificial intelligence
The editorial body expects that the submissions are creations of the authors and not of artificial intelligence tools. Therefore, the editorial body does not allow authors to exclusively use artificial intelligence tools (e.g.: ChatGPT, etc.) for the creation of works. Artificial intelligence tools cannot be co-authors of the work as they do not meet the minimum requirements for authorship of works. In the event that it is detected that a work was created mostly with artificial intelligence tools, it will be rejected or retracted.
Authors are responsible for reviewing, verifying and correcting any results generated by AI, taking into account the possible biases that may arise from its use during the development of the research.
Authors must commit to using AI tools responsibly, respecting intellectual property rights, data integrity and avoiding its manipulation, the generation of misleading content or plagiarism that may affect the credibility of the work.
Using artificial intelligence as a tool in the methodology used in studies
cannot replace critical analysis or the research process, but rather as a complementary tool that promotes quality and clarity in manuscripts.
Authors who use AI in any part of the development process of their manuscript must explicitly declare its use. It is essential that authors clearly explain which AI tools they used, at what point in the research, and how it contributed to the research report.
This statement should be included in the methods section, promoting transparency and strengthening ethics in scientific publication. Achieving transparency not only fosters trust in the research process, but also allows other researchers to replicate or evaluate the work more effectively.
Authors are allowed to use only and exclusively artificial intelligence tools as part of the methodology used in studies. In these cases, authors must report the following:
- Name of the artificial intelligence tool
- Description of how the artificial intelligence tool was used
- Evaluation of the validity of the results obtained using this artificial intelligence tool
- Aspects of the study, content, data and files that were modified and/or generated by the artificial intelligence tool
The use of artificial intelligence tools to conveniently fabricate or manipulate data in the study is unacceptable. This will lead to rejection of the submission or retraction of the published work.
Image generation with the help of artificial intelligence
The use of generative AI for the creation or alteration of images is not permitted in scientific articles. However, in the case of research whose design or methodology uses AI tools for the creation of figures, graphs or visual analysis, authors must describe their process in detail in the methods section.
It must be ensured that any image or figure included maintains authenticity and does not alter the results of the research.
On the use of AI tools in data generation
Data generation for the development of research cannot be done through AI tools. Data collection and interpretation must be based on a rigorous application of techniques and instruments by researchers, as detailed in the methods section.
Use of artificial intelligence by peer reviewers
Peer reviewers play a fundamental role in the publication of academic works. Their experience and evaluation of the works guide the editor in the decisions that must be made. Peer reviewers are directly responsible for the opinions and recommendations they provide in the opinions they provide to the editor. Therefore, the publishing body does not allow peer reviewers to use artificial intelligence tools to evaluate works or generate arbitration opinions.
