  • In the event of dissenting results, they will be referred to a third opinion, which will be final. As a measure of transparency, the list of reviewers is available on the Digital Science page, which is updated annually.
  • The result of the evaluation is made known to the author together with the comments, suggestions and observations of the referees, within a maximum period of three months from the date of receipt of the original. In all cases, the evaluations are final.
  • When articles are rejected because the topic does not correspond to the Journal's guidelines, double-blind peer review is not performed.

  • The editorial board of the journal is obligated to inform the author of any matters related to their contribution during the evaluation process and editorial production.

From the authors.

  • The submitted articles must be the result of original and unpublished research, and must not have been previously published by any printed or electronic means, except for personal and/or institutional repositories with limited dissemination. The texts must not be submitted simultaneously to another publication.
  • The authors are solely responsible for the content of the texts and for any litigation or claims related to intellectual property rights, and therefore must indemnify the journal's editorial board.
  • The authors must provide all information related to the research that supports the article, as well as specify if it is part of any other ongoing research and if it was presented at any seminar or conference.
  • The authors must acknowledge their scientific debts by clearly specifying the origin of their ideas, methodologies, sources, etc., so that readers can consult them and, if they deem it necessary, compare the use that has been made of them.

Authorship changes

It refers to the addition, removal, or rearrangement of the order of authors. Before the article is published, the corresponding author can request the Editor to add, remove, or modify the order of the authors. You must indicate the reason for making the modification and send a written communication signed by all authors certifying that they all agree with the modification. In case of addition or removal, the written communication must include confirmation from the author(s). Once the article is published, additions, removals, or modifications to the order of authors are not accepted.

Of the peer review process.

  • The submitted articles are reviewed anonymously by at least two academic peers who are experts in the subject of the text. The reviewers are suggested by the members of the Editorial Committee. In case of a discrepancy between the evaluations, the text is sent to a third referee whose decision defines the final verdict. The Editorial Committee are responsible for weighing lax or biased judgments to ensure a fair and impartial evaluation.
  • Authors must ensure that the article and supplementary files do not contain metadata that could jeopardize the anonymous review process.
  • The editor will inform the author of the outcome of the reviews along with the comments, suggestions, and observations of the reviewers within a maximum period of 4 months from the date of receipt of the original. The result of the evaluation is final in all cases.
  • When the result of the evaluations conditions the introduction of additions and/or modifications, the editor will request the revision of the manuscript according to those indications. The authors have the right to reply, so they can argue about the aspects of the reviews with which they do not agree, as well as choose to withdraw their submission.
  • The corrected versions must be submitted within a period not exceeding 4 weeks. The revised text will be sent to the specialists who reviewed it to verify that their suggestions have been addressed. Once the second version has been accepted by the academic peers, no further modifications can be made, except for adaptations to the journal's submission guidelines.
  • Reviews are not subject to evaluation.

Of the arbiters

  • The evaluator commits to conducting the assessment in the established format and timeframe. In case of being unable to comply with the requirements, they must decline the request.
  • When the reviewer identifies the authorship of the manuscript, they must decline the Editor's invitation to review it.
  • When reviewers find indications of inappropriate conduct in the articles: plagiarism, self-plagiarism, excessive self-citation, false or manipulated data, erroneous or inadequate citations, double submission of manuscripts, they must inform the editor, who will reject it, indicating the reason. If the misconduct is discovered during the editorial production process, the article in question will be withdrawn; if it happens after it has been published, the electronic version will be removed.
  • Reviewers must maintain absolute discretion, which means refraining from disseminating or commenting on the works received for evaluation.
  • The editor commits to responding promptly and reasonably to any complaints from authors, reviewers, or readers that are deemed pertinent.

Sanctions

  • Ethical violations will be punished depending on their severity. In the case of suspicion or well-founded accusation of plagiarism, an ethics committee composed of peers will be established to investigate the allegations and recommend sanctions. In case of confirmed plagiarism, the article will be withdrawn from the journal and a note will be placed explaining the reasons for its withdrawal.

The editorial committee of Digital Science is committed to high standards of ethics and good practices in the dissemination and transfer of knowledge, to ensure rigor and scientific quality. That is why it has adopted as a reference the Code of Conduct established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for scientific journal editors, which includes the following highlights:

Relations with Authors

Ciencia Digital is committed to ensuring the quality of the material it publishes, informing about the journal's objectives and standards.

Editorial Decision-Making Process and Academic Integrity

Final decisions regarding the acceptance or rejection of a manuscript for publication in Ciencia Digital are based on a collegiate and rigorous editorial oversight process. This process involves:

  1. Initial Technical Review: The Executive Editor conducts a preliminary screening to verify compliance with formatting standards and originality.

  2. Peer Review: All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer-review process, where external experts assess the scientific quality of the content.

  3. Editorial Oversight: Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editorial Board (including the Director General, Executive Editor, and Section Editors) deliberates on the suitability of the work.

  4. Final Decision: The decision to publish is based solely on the study's importance, originality, clarity, and validity, as well as its relevance to the journal's scope, ensuring editorial independence from commercial or personal interests.

The journal includes a description of the processes followed in the peer review of each submitted work. It includes a manuscript submission guide for authors in which this information is presented and is regularly updated. The right of authors to appeal editorial decisions is recognized.

The editor will not modify their decision on the acceptance of submissions unless irregularities or extraordinary situations are detected. Any changes in the editorial board members will not affect the decisions already made, except in exceptional cases where serious circumstances converge.

Relationships with reviewers

Ciencia Digital provides reviewers with a manual for manuscript evaluation regarding what is expected of them. The identity of the reviewers is always protected, ensuring their anonymity.

Peer review process

Ciencia Digital guaranties that the material submitted for publication will be considered as confidential and reserved while it is being evaluated (double-blind).

Complaints

Monitoring of Misconduct

Ciencia Digital assumes its obligation to act accordingly in case of suspected malpractice or inappropriate conduct. This obligation extends to both published and unpublished documents. The editor will not only reject manuscripts that raise doubts about possible misconduct, but is also considered ethically obligated to report alleged cases of misconduct. The journal will make every reasonable effort to ensure that the works submitted for evaluation are rigorous and ethically appropriate.

Integrity and academic rigor

Whenever it is established that a published work contains significant inaccuracies, misleading or distorted statements, it must be corrected immediately.

In the event that any work is detected to have fraudulent content, it will be withdrawn as soon as it is known, immediately informing both readers and indexing systems.

The following are considered unacceptable practices and will be reported as such: the simultaneous submission of the same work to multiple journals, the duplicate publication or publication with irrelevant changes or paraphrasing of the same work, or the artificial fragmentation of a work into several articles.

Relationships with journal owners and editors

The relationship between editors, publishers, and owners will be subject to the principle of editorial independence.
