Critical analysis of the environmental impacts generated by the sugarcane agroindustry in Pastaza Province, Ecuadorian amazon

Introduction: Sugarcane cultivation and processing are crucial factors that drive the rural economy in Pastaza Province. Rudimentary technology and panela production methods lead to environmental impacts that must be evaluated, identified, and corrected. Objective: To analyze the environmental impacts generated by the panela agroindustry in Pastaza Province, Ecuadorian Amazon, specifically in the Teniente Hugo Ortiz panela mill. Methodology: The Leopold cause-effect matrix was applied as a methodological tool to identify the activities of the production process and evaluate their impact on environmental components. Results: Forty-one impacts were evaluated, with positive aspects representing 14.63%, while negative aspects reach 85.37%. The sugarcane cutting, milling, and facility cleaning stages have the highest negative impact (20%). In terms of Environmental Impact Units (UIA), 2190 were evaluated, of which 10.50% are positive and 89.50% are negative. The cutting (25.51%), milling (25.51%), and facility cleaning (19.90%) processes generate the highest negative UIAs. Conclusion: It is concluded that the lack of a clear environmental management policy and the lack of knowledge of waste treatment methods contribute to the generation of environmental pollution in the different production processes. It is recommended to change technology and treat effluents to improve economic income and the quality of life of the surrounding population.

Benefits of breastfeeding in newborns

Introduction: The research focuses on analyzing the benefits of breastfeeding in the newborn. Breastfeeding, an act as natural as it is fundamental, establishes the initial bond between a mother and her newborn, offering a cascade of benefits for both the baby and the mother. This biological process has been the subject of study and admiration throughout history, revealing a complexity and richness that goes beyond simple nutrition. Objective: To analyze the benefits of breast milk in the newborn. Methodology: This study is based on descriptive research and literature review. The research conducted has a qualitative approach. The technique applied for this research is based on the observatory process and analysis of research studies based on the antecedents. The digital database of the university such as SciELO, Web of Science, Ovid, ProQuest, Redalyc, Google academic was taken into consideration. Results: Breast milk provides the newborn with a comprehensive and perfectly balanced nutrition, rich in protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates and a wide range of essential vitamins and minerals. Breastfeeding can play a crucial role in the prevention of long-term diseases such as diabetes and childhood obesity, laying a solid foundation for the child's future health. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding was positively associated with normality, whereas artificial breastfeeding was associated with chronic malnutrition. The results support the importance of the choice of initial feeding and underline the need to promote breastfeeding for healthy child development.

Evaluation of skills in the STEM methodology for technical high school students of the Alfonso Quiñonez George Educational Unit

Introduction. This research aims to address a comprehensive analysis of the educational practices implemented in institutions that adopt the STEAM approach at the technical high school level. Objective. The main objective was to evaluate technical skills in the STEAM methodology for students of the Alfonso Quiñonez Educational Unit. Methodology. The research adopted a quasi-experimental approach, taking advantage of an experience in which students expressed themselves about the perception of their lived experience under a STEAM classroom project. Using a cross-sectional time design, a database was created that was analyzed with SPSS, focusing on evaluating learning outcomes. Based on an inductive method, a survey was used with a matrix of 10 questions structured in Likert scales, validated with a high Cronbach's Alpha of 0.891/1. The sample consisted of 155 high school students who participated in the use of the STEAM methodology during the last two months of the 2023-2024 school year. This approach allowed us to examine how students perceived the use of the methodology, providing valuable information about its benefits and challenges. Results. The research contributes to improving educational practices by identifying the effects of STEAM on teaching and offers perspectives for future research in the educational field. Conclusion. It was concluded that STEAM is perceived as usable and beneficial by high school students. Its use is positively associated with the development of learning skills, highlighting its relevance in contemporary education. Incidence and compliations in galactosemia in newly born

Introduction: Galactosemia in newborns is an inherited metabolic disease that affects the body's ability to break down and use galactose, a sugar present in milk and other foods. This condition is caused by a deficiency of an enzyme called galactose-1-phosphate uridyltransferase (GALT). Without the GALT enzyme, galactose builds up in the body and can cause damage to various organs and systems. To detect galactosemia in newborns, neonatal metabolic screening tests are performed soon after birth. These tests involve taking a blood sample from the baby's heel and analyzing it for different metabolic diseases, including galactosemia. Objective: Objective: Describe the clinical characteristics and complications and incidence of galactosemia in newborns. Methodology: The study is based on descriptive research that allows the variables related to the main topic to be examined in detail. The research is carried out from a qualitative perspective, focusing on the analysis of the clinical characteristics and complications of galactosemia in newborns. The descriptive approach of the study is based on the analysis of the established variables and the evaluation of the correlation between them. Results: The clinical complications of galactosemia in newborns highlight the importance of early diagnosis, adequate treatment, and a specialized diet to prevent difficulties and promote healthy development in these patients. Conclusion: Galactosemia in newborns has significant clinical features and complications, such as liver damage, developmental delay, growth problems, cataracts, and neurological disorders. Breastfeeding can continue if foods with galactose are avoided. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key to preventing complications and promoting healthy development. Early detection through neonatal metabolic screening tests allows galactosemia to be identified. The galactose-free diet is recommended for life, avoiding lactose and galactose in the diet. Risk factors for obesity in pregnancy

Introduction: Obesity during pregnancy represents a significant challenge for maternal-fetal health, with implications that go beyond gestation itself. This phenomenon has attracted increasing attention due to its adverse consequences for both the mother and the developing fetus. Identifying the risk factors associated with obesity during pregnancy is essential to better understand this problem and address it effectively. Objective: To identify the risk factors for obesity during pregnancy. Methodology: The development of this study is based on qualitative research with an analytical approach to existing sources of information, such as books, scientific articles, journals, theses, reports, and other documents. This research approach focuses on the collection, review, and synthesis of the available literature on a specific research topic or problem. Results: The connection between maternal obesity and the risk of obesity in offspring, revealing a pattern of transmission of obesity from mother to offspring. In addition, the negative impact of maternal obesity on the prevalence of intellectual disability in offspring is highlighted, underlining the need to address maternal health as a preventive measure for health risks in children. Conclusion: The research was able to identify several risk factors associated with obesity during pregnancy. Among them, the incidence of certain educational and income levels, as well as geographic location and marital status, stand out as elements that contribute significantly to the presence of obesity in pregnant women.

Supply chain 5.0 performance indicators for agroindustry: a review of the literature

Introduction: the challenges of the agri-food sector have driven companies to look for different ways to improve their competitiveness, which has led to the emergence of industry 5.0. This new industrial era not only focuses on the implementation of advanced technology in supply chains, but also on fostering resilience, increasing sustainability and maintaining a human-centric approach at all stages. Aim: supply chains in agribusiness, taking into account the three essential pillars of industry 5.0. Methodology: the selection of indicators was carried out through a systematic literature review, using Fink's methodology. It covered 97 articles in English and Portuguese published between 2020 and 2024. The analysis of these documents was carried out using the Atlas.ti software version 2019, applying the 4W model (when, who, where and what) and answering the three research questions posed through the PICO strategy. Results: The results highlight an increase in the publication of articles starting in 2021, coinciding with the period after the highest peak of COVID-19 infections, when companies began to adapt to the new reality. During this period, companies sought ways to mitigate the impact of disruptive events on their productive and economic activities, identifying key factors of Industry 5.0 to apply in supply chains. Conclusions: the complete implementation of Industry 5.0 still faces difficulties. Although significant studies have been carried out on the subject in India, its application has been complicated. Finally, 21 possible indicators are proposed with their variables for agri-food chains, based on the three essential elements (sustainability, resilience and human focus) and eight key criteria derived from these elements. Characterization of hematological profiles in dog breeds using multivariate analysis

Introduction. Hematological analysis serves as a cornerstone in veterinary clinical diagnosis, providing objective information for disease identification and accurate medical treatment in canines. Objective. This study aims to characterize hematological profiles in canine breeds using multivariate analysis. Methodology. The study involved collecting blood samples from seven dogs of different breeds and ages. Various hematological parameters were analyzed using laboratory techniques. The results were analyzed using mean comparison statistics and Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Results. Hematological analysis revealed values outside the permissible range, suggesting an underlying pathological cause of anemia. Mean comparison analysis demonstrated significant differences between animal sexes in hematocrit, hemoglobin, and red blood cell count parameters. Multivariate analysis identified four principal components explaining 92.56% of the total variance in hematological parameters, revealing variation patterns related to the size and concentration of red blood cells, eosinophils, lymphocytes, and platelets. Significant differences were observed in parameters such as hematocrit, hemoglobin, and red blood cell count among the studied breeds. Conclusion. The study concludes that significant variations exist in hematological parameters among canine breeds, emphasizing the need to consider breed when interpreting blood test results in dogs for more accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

University professors’ research competence and their level of scientific production

Introduction:  Research competence and scientific production in university professors are widely recognized due to the direct impact both have on the quality of teaching and the academic reputation of institutions. Objectives: this research aimed to explore the correlation between research competence and the level of scientific production in a group of University Professors. Methodology: this population consisted of 14 educationalists currently working in a Public University in the highlands of Ecuador. This is a correlational study that involved a Likert-type scale, and the review of publication records. The Likert scale verified the self-perception of participants regarding their research competence. The review of publication records, on the other hand, compared their self-perception of the research competence with that of their real scientific production. Results: results display a disconnection between the 2 associative variables. Although participants affirm that their research competence is high, the records of their scientific production say otherwise. Conclusions: in general, this study might serve as the starting point to scrutinize external causal relations which are present in the self-perception of the research competence and cannot be examined adequately with correlational studies.  General area of study: education. Structural evaluation of the steel girder deck of the bridge over the Bulubulu River, Guayas province

Introduction: Bridges are fundamental structures for socioeconomic development worldwide, they are essential elements for roadways and Ecuador has important bridges in its road network. On the other hand, our country, being a territory with a high seismic hazard, requires for bridges not only an analysis of gravity loads, but also under lateral loads coming from seismic action. This case study will address the structural behavior of the BuluBulu bridge deck, specifically the flexural and shear analysis of the longitudinal structural steel beams, and the axial load analysis of the support and interior diaphragms. Objective: To determine the structural behavior of the longitudinal beams and diaphragms of the Bulubulu Bridge deck under gravity loads and seismic loads by means of a spectral modal analysis of a mathematical model of the structure developed in the CSI Bridge program. Methodology: Review the structural drawings of the original project, evaluate the acting loads, develop a mathematical model of the structure in the CSI BRIDGE program, perform a spectral modal analysis of the mathematical model of the structure, obtain the maximum demands on the longitudinal beams and diaphragms, verify the demand-capacity ratios (D/C) in bending and shear of the longitudinal beams, as well as the D/C ratios in compression and axial tension of the diaphragms. Results: From the maximum demands obtained from the structural analysis and the evaluation of the capacity of the elements, the following results were obtained. The steel beam "VIGA I (1.360x0.020x0.40x0.03) m" has sufficient capacity for the stresses to which it will be subjected, working at 79% for negative bending, 67% for positive bending and 25% for shear. The diaphragms satisfactorily meet the requirements and design philosophy of remaining in the elastic range in the event of an earthquake. For the end diaphragm, compression predominates in the diagonal, working at 91% of its capacity, while for the interior diaphragm, tension predominates in the horizontal, working at 49% of its capacity. Conclusion: Through structural analysis using the mathematical model developed at CSI Bridge, the maximum and most critical stresses in the longitudinal beam and diaphragm elements were determined. The longitudinal steel girders and the interior and support diaphragms satisfactorily meet the design requirements according to AASHTO LRFD 2020, and the diaphragms comply with the design philosophy of keeping these elements in the elastic range. For this study, the design of the longitudinal beams is governed by Limit State Strength I, the supporting diaphragms are governed by Extreme Event L.S. and the interior diaphragms are governed by Strength I L.S.

Musicalized exercises for the inclusion of students with moderate intellectual disability into the physical education class

Introduction: this article explores how the integration of musicalized exercises in Physical Education can be an innovative and effective strategy to overcome the challenges of inclusion of students with moderate intellectual disabilities. By combining the benefits of physical activity and music, this study seeks to provide valuable insight into inclusive and adaptive methods that can be implemented in the education system to encourage more equal and enriching participation in PE classes. Objectives: the main objective is to examine the efficacy of musicalized exercises in improving the inclusion of students with moderate intellectual disability in physical education classes. Specific objectives include assessing the impact of these exercises on student participation and physical performance, identifying barriers and facilitators for their implementation, and proposing evidence-based recommendations for their effective incorporation into the education system. Methodology: this research adopts a mixed approach, combining qualitative and quantitative elements to analyze the inclusion of students with moderate intellectual disability in Physical Education classes through musical exercises. It is developed in distinct phases, from an initial exploratory phase to understand disability, to a correlational phase that evaluates the effectiveness of the proposed program. Tools such as observation guides and surveys are used to obtain a complete view of pre- and post-intervention outcomes, allowing specific needs to be identified and effective inclusive strategies to be designed. Results: the survey applied to Physical Education teachers revealed that female teachers used musical exercises more frequently than male teachers, observing greater receptivity and improvements in the participation and commitment of students with moderate intellectual disabilities. Both groups agreed on the significant benefits of these exercises for the inclusion and emotional well-being of students, as well as on their contribution to the integral development and improvement of coordination and balance. Conclusions: the implementation of musical exercises in Physical Education classes has proven to be an effective strategy for the inclusion of students with moderate intellectual disabilities. The results indicate significant improvements in psychomotor and psychosocial abilities, especially in subject 1, who showed a notable increase in post-intervention scores, although cognitive abilities presented an increase in both subjects, the highest percentage of positive influence was evidenced in the exercises musicalized during Physical Education classes, revealing their benefits,  in students with intellectual disabilities, demonstrating improvements in their participation and emotional well-being, and a more positive collaborative and inclusive environment.
