Abstract

Introduction: Nowadays, meeting project deadlines is essential to ensure economic and social efficiency. However, delays are common due to inadequate planning or poor control. Objective: In this study, the use of Microsoft Project to improve the management of distribution network projects at Empresa Eléctrica Regional Centro Sur C.A. (CENTROSUR) is analyzed. Methodology: A quantitative research with a descriptive scope and a non-experimental cross-sectional design was used. Results: The results indicate that 25% of the respondents stated that half or less of the projects were completed within the deadline from January 2021 to May 2023, with the most common delays lasting 2 to 3 months. The main causes of non-compliance were failure to consider risks and failure to adjust timing and sequencing in case of delays. The use of the Gantt chart and status reports is highlighted, but most respondents do not use specialized software. Conclusion: Finally, it is concluded that the use of software such as Ms Project would improve the control of activities and the application of the PMBOK guidelines, although the lack of knowledge of the personnel must be overcome.
