Bad eating habits and mental fatigue in the university students of Ecuador (Cantón Milagro case)

Abstract

Throughout the university stay, students' healthy habits and the way they relate to their learning should be emphasized. The following research aims to determine how bad eating habits influence the mental fatigue of university students in Ecuador (Milagro case), a mixed and exploratory approach was applied in order to acquire information through the application of surveys, which was carried out out with a sample. Of 372 students of both sexes of the university academic regime of the canton of Milagro. As a result, 59% of university students report feeling tired and sleepy during class hours because they do not eat nutrient-rich foods necessary for the optimal functioning of the organism, since 59% report that they do not have a good diet, They claim to consume high amounts of fast food with a high level of saturated fats harmful to health, all caused by time charges, lack of time and several factors that affect this problem. This information collected shows the need to take the necessary measures regarding the nutrition of university students, since a poor diet negatively affects their academic performance.
