CrossMark is a multi-publisher platform from the CrossRef organization that provides a standard way to locate the official version of a document and download it. It allows authors to make corrections to their publication and clicking on the CrossMark icon will inform the reader about the current status of the particular document.
Anatomía Digital Magazinesupports 9 types of updates according to Crossmark standards. The definitions of these updates are:
Addendum:Notification of additional information about an article. Addenda are published when editors decide that additional information is crucial for the reader to understand a significant part of the published contribution.
Erratum:Notification of a significant error made by the journal that affects the publication record or the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the authors or the journal.
Corrigendum:Notification of a significant error made by the author(s) that affects the publication record or the scientific integrity of the article, or the reputation of the authors or the journal
Retraction:Notification of invalid results affecting the reliability of a previously published article. The original article is marked as retracted but remains available to readers, and the retraction statement notifying readers of the invalidity of the published article is bidirectionally linked to the original published paper.
Expression of concern: Journal editors may consider issuing an “Expression of Concern” if they have well-founded concerns and feel that readers should be made aware of potentially misleading information contained in an article. However, “Expressions of Concern” should only be issued if an investigation into the issues surrounding the article has been inconclusive, and if there are strong indicators that the concerns are valid.
Article withdrawal: This is not advisable and is only used in exceptional circumstances for older version articles that have been accepted for publication but have not yet been formally published ("articles in press") but may already appear online. Such versions may contain errors, may have been accidentally submitted twice, or may violate a journal's ethical publishing guidelines (e.g. multiple submissions, false claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data, etc.). In such situations, especially in case of legal/ethical violations or false/inaccurate data that could pose a detrimental risk if used, it may be decided to withdraw the older version of the article from our electronic platform. Article withdrawal means that the content of the article (both HTML and PDF versions) is removed.
Elimination. In an extremely limited number of cases, it may be necessary to remove a published article from our online platform. This will only happen if an article is clearly defamatory, or infringes the legal rights of others, or where the article is, or we have good reason to expect that it will be, the subject of a court order, or where the article may pose a serious risk to health. In such circumstances, the metadata (i.e. the title and author information) of the article will be retained, the text will be replaced with a screenshot or message stating that the article has been removed for legal reasons.
Remake:In cases where an article poses a serious health risk, for example, the authors of the original article may wish to withdraw the defective original and replace it with a corrected version. In such circumstances, the above procedures for retraction will be followed except that the retraction notice for the article will contain a link to the corrected republished article along with a history of the document.
Correction:We consider issuing a correction when: ü A small portion of a reliable publication reports flawed data or turns out to be misleading, especially if this is the result of an honest mistake. ü The list of authors or contributors is incorrect (for example, a creditable author has been omitted or someone who does not meet the criteria for authorship has been included).
