Abstract

Introduction: As there is no validation of MMSE for Ecuador, the elaboration of the current research becomes relevant because it is necessary to adapt, but for this it is necessary to know its international contributions. Objective: The objective was to review the scientific evidence on the psychometric properties of MMSE. Methodology: A systematic review was generated in the scientific literature from the PRISMA procedure, working with 10 articles published in various databases such as Scielo, PubMed, WOS, Scopus. Results: The scores obtained with the MMSE and the MoCA are related to each other; however, MoCA scores are lower and more dispersed in different age and schooling groups, so a different cut-off point could be used to determine MCI in the community population. Conclusion: Evidence from those who exclusively used MMSE, consider beneficial to achieve cognitive measurement goals. Regarding the adjustment rates of the Mini Mental State Examination, there is a variation in the criteria of the population where it is used, with considerable validation to be carried out in various contexts, which could contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the MMSE.
