Bovine placentomas as an alternative in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in dogs

Abstract
Introduction. At present, there are few studies on placentophagy in animals and the benefits that could be derived from the consumption of placentomas, whether of the same species or of a different one. Objective. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of bovine placentomas in the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in dogs. The study was carried out in the city of Guayaquil. Materials and methods. The placentomas were extracted from the slaughtering center of the city of Guayaquil, being cooked completely at a temperature of 160° Fahrenheit and then dehydrated for 8 hours, to pulverize them and proceed to encapsulate them and supply them to an experimental group of dogs (group A), while the control group (group B), was supplied with multivitamin tablets existing in the market, which contained trace elements such as iron in their composition. Results. The results obtained in this research were that 60% of the animals that were supplied with placentomas got rid of their iron deficiency amenia. Conclusions. It was demonstrated that the consumption of placentomas does have favorable effects in patients with iron deficiency anemia.
