Abstract

Photoprotection, a barrier or measure to avoid skin problems, is related to the use of sunscreen or protective clothing. The research determined the knowledge about photoprotection in taxi drivers from the city of Riobamba, Ecuador. Based on a bibliographic, descriptive and analytical field study, a survey was applied using Microsoft Forms for Office 365, adapted from Ramos et al. (2016), to 398 taxi drivers – men and women – belonging to various cooperatives, who voluntarily accepted 94% of the socialization of results. 55% were identified between the ages of 20 and 39, with a predominance of the male gender (85%); 83% claimed to have knowledge about photoprotection. However, when evaluating protection habits, only 47% reported using sunscreen, 65% only on sunny days, 61% put it on before exposing themselves to the sun and 40% to avoid sunburn; 86% considered training on photoprotection issues necessary to avoid photoaging.
