Digital innovation with Nearpod for learning whole numbers in the eighth year of basic general education

Abstract

Introduction. This study focused on evaluating the impact of using Nearpod as an educational tool in the learning of integers in eighth-grade students of Basic General Education. Objectives. The general objective was to analyze how the implementation of this digital tool improves academic performance and student motivation in mathematics. The problem addressed lies in the traditional difficulties of teaching abstract concepts, such as integers, characterized by student demotivation and a disconnect between theoretical concepts and their practical application. Methodology. A quasi-experimental methodology was used with a descriptive and correlational approach. Two groups of 40 students worked with: one experimental group, which used Nearpod, and another control group, which received traditional teaching. Academic grades and perception surveys were analyzed to evaluate the objective and subjective effects of Nearpod on learning. Results. A significant difference was observed in academic performance, with an average of 86.5% in the Nearpod group versus 64.5% in the control group, reflecting an increase of 21.1% in favor of the experimental group. In addition, most students reported feeling more motivated and able to apply the concepts learned. Conclusion. The main conclusion is that Nearpod is an effective tool to improve both performance and motivation in mathematics. As a recommendation, it is suggested to improve the accessibility and clarity of the activities and provide technical training to teachers and students to maximize the impact of the tool in diverse educational environments.
