Design and manufacture of a tennis ball launcher machine
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: This study designed and manufactured a field tennis ball launching machine using rotating wheels and controlled vertical movement for a scheduled training system. Objectives: To manufacture a tennis ball launcher by conducting functionality tests and verifying ball effects and speed to ensure its correct operation. Methodology: The researcher performed a literature review and the dialectical method to manage information to achieve the study objectives. In addition, the historical method was also used because previous sources were crucial to finding the main characteristics of tennis ball launchers existing in the international market. Results: It was obtained a machine with rotating wheels with a speed of 2750 rpm, capable of transmitting enough kinetic energy to the tennis ball, achieving different shots with three launching effects: Slice, Top Spin, and Flat Spin, similar to an average player. Also, the ball reached an average expulsion linear velocity of 59,38 km/h. Conclusion: The tennis ball launching machine functionality tests showed a 93% of accuracy regarding positioning; in addition, balls fall in a maximum diameter of 20 cm concerning the desired final position.
