Synopsis

El libro Estabilidad postural, función cognitiva y marcha: correlaciones neurofisiológicas en el adulto mayor examina, desde una perspectiva interdisciplinaria, las interacciones entre los sistemas nervioso, sensorial y musculoesquelético en la regulación del equilibrio, la postura y la locomoción durante el proceso de envejecimiento. A través de un enfoque integrador, el autor analiza los mecanismos biológicos, neurológicos y cognitivos que sustentan la estabilidad corporal, demostrando cómo la actividad física, la estimulación cognitiva y la educación motriz pueden modular los efectos del deterioro funcional asociado a la edad.

La obra aborda los procesos fisiológicos y neuropsicológicos del envejecimiento, explicando cómo las transformaciones estructurales del cerebro y del sistema musculoesquelético repercuten en la movilidad, la coordinación y la percepción del espacio. Se estudian los mecanismos sensoriales y neuromusculares del equilibrio, la función del cerebelo y de los ganglios basales en el control motor, y la importancia del aprendizaje motor en la preservación de la funcionalidad. Desde la neurociencia del movimiento, se discute la relación entre las funciones ejecutivas, la memoria de trabajo, la atención y la planificación motora, y cómo su deterioro incrementa el riesgo de caídas y dependencia funcional.

Asimismo, el texto integra teorías cognitivas y psicosociales del envejecimiento que explican la interacción entre los aspectos mentales, emocionales y sociales de la vejez. Se presenta la evidencia científica que demuestra que la práctica sistemática de ejercicio físico estimula la plasticidad cerebral, incrementa los niveles de factores neurotróficos como el BDNF y favorece la reorganización funcional del sistema nervioso. De esta manera, el libro plantea que el envejecimiento activo es posible mediante la integración de programas de educación física adaptada que promuevan el bienestar cognitivo y motor.

Finalmente, el autor invita a repensar la educación física como una ciencia del movimiento humano al servicio del envejecimiento digno, donde el cuerpo se convierte en un medio de expresión cognitiva y emocional. El libro representa una síntesis entre ciencia, pedagogía y ética, ofreciendo herramientas teóricas y prácticas para mejorar la calidad de vida, la autonomía y la salud integral del adulto mayor.
